A Century of Flavor|Cultural Memories of the Daxi Beancurd Festival
Since 1951, Daxi has been renowned throughout Taiwan for its tofu industry. In the early years, local businesses worked together to promote their products, gradually giving rise to the grand Daxi Beancurd Festival. With its pure water sources, generations-old tofu-making techniques, and rich local hospitality, Daxi beancurd has become one of Taoyuan’s most iconic culinary symbols. Since 2015, the Taoyuan City Government has combined local industry and cultural resources to host the festival, which now attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year, boosting tourism and driving the growth of the tofu industry, while continually injecting vitality into the local community.
Yet Daxi beancurd represents more than the preservation of tradition. It evokes nostalgia while simultaneously engaging with a modern sensibility; what was once a simple street-side delicacy has now found its place on international dining tables. Through the symbol of beancurd, Taoyuan reinterprets local stories for a global audience, inviting people everywhere to savor the cultural depth of this region with every bite.
